FoodRaising coffee morning – Friday 30th May 11am.
Foodraising Coffee Morning
The Lighthouse Project is holding a Food Raising coffee morning in support of the Middleton Central Foodbank that is to open shortly.
The coffee morning is being held on Friday 30th May 2014 from 11am, and will include drinks, a talk and a tour.
Visitors are being encouraged to bring a donation of food to help build up the foodbank supplies in advance of it’s opening planned for June.
Every foodbank relies on donations and support from the general public and businesses to keep it stocked with supplies.
Food is given out using a voucher system that involves local agenices or organisations who are in contact with people experiencing crisis and are able to verify their need. Once a voucher is issued this is brought to the foodbank and exchanged for a 3-day supply of food. Each food parcel contains a mix of products that are nutritiously balanced and prepared for an individual, couple or family.
The Middleton Central Foodbank is a collaborative project being run by volunteers from a number of local Middleton churches and the general public. It is part of a larger national network of foodbanks supported by the Trussell Trust to help meet the needs of people who find themselves in crisis.
Last year in (2013-14) the national network of Trussell Trust foodbanks supported over 913,000 people with at least 3 days of emergency food, which included over 330,000 children.
Around the country
> 11,524 churches,
> 7138 schools, and
> 24,000 referral agencies
are supporting Trussell Trust foodbanks.
